Secret Garden

A San Francisco building code requires commercial developers in dense downtown areas to include "privately-owned public accessible open spaces" or (POPOS) in their constructions. Atriums and gardens such as this one were built for the public.

Unfortunately, not too many people know about their existence either because they were not well publicized or they were well-hidden. I certainly didn't know about them until I took a guided architectural tour of the city.

Only within the last few years that a map of all the POPOS in the city was published. If you want to go on a treasure hunt, click on the map and visit all of them.

how wonderful! i wish more cities (like here in bangkok) would do this! it's so strange that it's not publicized there.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Now that you know the secret, perhaps you have some POPOS in your area that you haven't discovered yet.
